West Ham United had an official watch FC Porto beat Chaves 2-1 on Monday night. It’s not the only time recently that Slaven Bilic has had a spy at Porto, and the attendance is confirmed by Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

It’s not stated who West Ham were watching, that’s not of interest to A Bola right now, but an educated guess would lead to Laurent Depoitre. Earlier this year, West Ham were one of the English clubs repeatedly linked with Depoitre, who was then playing for Gent.

Het Nieuwsblad said the Hammers were one of the clubs scouting him, but in the end Depoitre signed for Porto, whilst West Ham signed Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri.

None of it has worked out well.

Depoitre came on for Porto last night to score his only goal since arriving there. All season the Belgian striker has amassed a total of 244 minutes with Porto, that’s over 200 minutes less than even Simone Zaza.

Unavailable for transfer in January, having already represented Gent, Depoitre would be a summer option.
