More than once in his managerial career, David Moyes has been referred to as ‘Dithering Dave’ due to his hesitation in the transfer market.

The story goes that Moyes will agree on a target and then stall things at the last minute, giving other clubs the chance to get ahead of whoever he’s managing at the time.

That may well have been the case recently with West Ham and Roman Yaremchuk. The 25-year-old has moved from Gent to Benfica for €17m, with the Belgium club due 25% from a future sale.

Monday’s edition of HLN says West Ham were a candidate to sign the player, but the Hammers ‘waited’ to make an official offer for the Ukraine international.

Whilst all this was happening, Benfica swooped in and got a deal done, with €17m a big fee for them to pay. The Lisbon side must feel there’s a good chance of a profit at a later stage.

As for West Ham, they’ll now move to other targets and Moyes will hope his hesitation will prove correct.
