In the past couple of days, several stories from the Mexican media have been linking Club America star Pedro Aquino with a move to West Ham United.
Before we get on board with this rumour, we better explain where it’s coming from and why the Hammers are now considered the most likely destination for the 26-year-old.
It starts with the fact that about a month ago, it was claimed that West Ham are interested in the midfielder. That was a story that didn’t last long, but was enough to stay in the minds of local journalists.
Now TUDN’s Gabiran Araige came up with a report at the weekend to say that Aquino has an offer from a Premier League club , with the side in question remaining unnamed. He said the bid is being analysed by Club America, and there’s nothing decided for now.
So when covering the news, many local outlets, such as TV Azteca, pointed out that West Ham were recently interested in the player and could take him from America in January, even though that’s just an assumption for now.
The local media doesn’t even have an idea of how much the Hammers could pay for the player, even though there’s the feeling that in case a Premier League club come for his signing, then the Mexican side won’t stand a chance of keeping him.
Aquino is valued by Transfermarkt at €7.5m, and is having an important role both at the Liga MX giants and with the Peruvian national team.
