William Carvalho, the subject of West Ham’s biggest summer transfer circus, seems very close to signing a new contract with Portuguese side Sporting, as reported by Record today.
The outlet claims that the player is renewing to get a pay rise, and something that will also change is his release clause, which will go from €45m to €60m.
However, it doesn’t mean that he’s staying. As often done in Portugal, he’s set to sign a new contract and then be sold, using the World Cup as a showcase.
And as you can imagine, West Ham are once again mentioned a couple of times. But that’s not because they are anywhere close to signing the midfielder.When speaking of his price being increased, Record claims that the €45m release clause was exactly what stopped West Ham from signing him this year. So they imply €60m would be even more unlikely for the Hammers.
But William’s Premier League dream is said to still be on, and even though he will not force his way out of Sporting, the player will still seek a move to England as soon as he can.
Maybe that’s where West Ham’s chances lie, as long as they can convince Sporting to sell him for a more reasonable price. The €60m release clause seems too much this time, so perhaps the Lisbon side will only use this as a bigger margin to negotiate.
