West Ham United continue to be pointed out as the main contenders for the signing of Gonzalo Montiel from River Plate.

Argentine outlet El Intransigente brings a story today with bad news for the Buenos Aires side, saying there’s a big chance they’ll lose some players this year.

The reason for that is the change in the transfer window deadline, as the European market is now expected to be closed in October.

It means there are three extra months for River Plate players to receive offers from European sides, and Gonzalo Montiel is one of the strongest candidates to leave the club.

El Intransigente says the fullback has been linked to the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Roma, but it’s West Ham who are the ‘strongest’ club in the race.

The Argentine media has repeatedly reported that the Hammers had already tried to sign the 23-year-old in January. Not long ago, his agent said he expects the Premier League side to return for him in the summer.
