West Ham’s Adrian received his first international call up from new Spain manager Julen Lopetegui.

The former Real Betis goalkeeper has established himself at West Ham in the last couple of seasons, and has been finally given a chance to represent his nation.

Adrian has been speaking to Spanish daily Marca, and was asked about the moment he was informed about the news.

He said: “After completing training with West Ham I saw that my mobile had 300-odd Whatsapp messages and thousands of calls from people wanting to congratulate me.”

Adrian insists switching to the Premier League from La Liga has changed his life, and has helped him establish himself.

He added: “Going to the Premier League changed my life… England is where I’ve made a name. When you go on the field people are with you and support you.”

The West Ham goalkeeper is a little unlikely to start ahead of David De Gea, but should certainly be delighted to see himself in Lopetegui’s first Spain squad.
