Iago Herrerin is looking to leave Athletic Club Bilbao, report AS in their Monday edition. The goalkeeper moved to the club in 2012, having previously spent part of his youth career there.
Now 32 years of age he’s looking for a new challenge, aware he’s very unlikely to find his way into the team, given Unai Simon’s presence at the club.
His head is already elsewhere, and AS state Herrerin fancies a move to the Premier League this summer, with West Ham pushed forward as an option.
The Hammers are yet to make a concrete move, but if they do so then the player will see that chance with more enthusiasm than other options, such as a move to Turkey.
AS state Herrerin’s representatives are in talks with Athletic Club about the method of an exit. The Basque side could even let Herrerin leave for free, as long as they’d get bonuses related to appearances and progress, plus a share of any future transfer fee.
Effectively, West Ham could sign the player for free, only having to part with cash should they use him.
