Now that Rafa Benitez has made it clear Islam Slimani will not be staying at Newcastle next season, the Algeria international will need to think about where he’ll play.

Were Claude Puel to stay at Leicester City, it seems unlikely the Algeria international would have a future at King Power Stadium, considering the French manager didn’t trust him enough to keep him around for the second half of the season.

That means either another loan or a transfer is on the cards in the summer, and La Gazette du Fennec in Algeria believe two suitors from January could return to give it another shot: West Ham and Besiktas.

They claim the Hammers have made their interest known again over the past few days, as David Moyes’ side still search for the elusive prolific striker they’ve been trying to sign over the past five years or so.

Over in Turkey, the possibility of playing in the Champions League and the success Sofiane Feghouli has enjoyed in the Super Lig are factors that could play in Besiktas’ favour.

La Gazette du Fennec do, however, make it clear Slimani would prefer to stay in the Premier League if he has the chance to do so.

So, advantage West Ham?
