West Ham United’s transfer business this week depends on Chelsea, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
Tucked away on page 43 of their Thursday edition is a claim that Carlos Bacca will on Friday present his decision to West Ham about a transfer.
Bacca, who turns 30 in September, is holding out for something better and trying to delay The Hammers, who have set a Friday deadline.
Corriere della Sera say that on Thursday Atletico Madrid expect a final answer from Chelsea over a Diego Costa return. If that’s a no, as would be expected, then it gives Bacca a chance at the move instead.
If Chelsea suddenly decide to sell Costa, then Bacca’s chances are dead, and he’d have to take the West Ham offer… that’s the story anyway.
However, we covered reports on Wednesday from Corriere dello Sport which stated Bacca wasn’t a huge target for Atletico. They’d only asked AC Milan for information, and then taken things no further.
Spanish newspaper AS published an interview with the player today and he didn’t exactly sound in a rush: “My future is in God ‘s hands. We all know that I have a contract with Milan for four years. There’s offers and interest from clubs in England, Spain, Italy, France and Germany. It is not easy making a decision. We have time, we are calm. My agent is in communication with the clubs and with Milan.”
Asked about the prospect of maybe playing in the Champions League with Atletico Madrid, Bacca said: “My dream is to play in it and I work every day for that. I want to play in it with Milan because it was so unfortunate we did not get that step.”
Maybe West Ham should move on, it’s not as if Bacca was their first choice and there are other options out there.
