Despite all that initial excitement, the Portuguese press haven’t been getting many updates on William Carvalho’s situation lately. Sporting seem to be waiting for West Ham’s new bid, and meanwhile, there isn’t much to comment on.

But Record has a very good story today, showing how the situation stands from several points of view, as the talks seem to be paused.

The first thing is that Carvalho hasn’t even been training. He didn’t play against Steaua Bucharest because of a shoulder injury, and is now a doubt for the league game against Vitória de Guimarães because of pain in his leg.

Record claims that Slaven Bilic considers Carvalho the most important signing of the season for West Ham, while Sporting wait for the new offer.

Sporting expect this new bid to be of €35m plus €5m in bonuses, with the Lisbon side keeping something between 10% or 15% of a future sale. West Ham would also have to pay for the Fifa solidarity mechanism payment.

But Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho still has some time to fight for more money, and would push for the initial fee to be €38m. The first amount will be paid in two instalments.

However, for West Ham to spend all that money, they need to have it first. Record claims that the club is still planning to sell a few players this summer to ‘relieve’ their financial situation before bidding again.

The newspaper also says that West Ham will only sign one midfielder this summer. This goes against the recent rumours which linked the club to other Liga NOS players, such as Danilo Pereira, Adrien Silva, João Palhinha and Pizzi.
