Last month, we covered claims from France that West Ham United are chasing Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.
The Hammers’ interest isn’t new as they tried to sign the striker in the summer of 2023, when he was at Paris Saint-Germain. They reportedly made a loan offer, and PSG turned it down.
Ekitike joined the Bundesliga club on loan in January 2024 and made his stay permanent later that year.
Foot Mercato echoes earlier claims about West Ham interest and add that they have now ‘positioned themselves’ to sign the 22-year-old. The Premier League club are one of the teams ‘ready to welcome’ him in the summer window.
They have also relayed comments made by the Frenchman during a chat with L’Equipe.
Ekitike struggled during his time at PSG between July 2022 and January 2024, but things have improved for him in Germany. The frontman insists he will be prepared if there is a transfer in the coming windows.
“I am focused on my club, but I know that if I want to take a new step, I will be better prepared than I was then,” he said.
Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg claims the German club are expecting him to leave in the next window.
“They are almost 99% expecting Ekitike to leave the club in the summer, as there is already concrete interest from many top clubs.” he said.
Sky state Eintracht Frankfurt want €80m for Ekitike, and West Ham have to pay this fee to secure his services.
Ekitike has scored 18 goals and registered six assists for Eintracht Frankfurt this season.
