Claims regarding Guido Rodriguez and his difficulty settling in at West Ham United have been travelling between the UK and Spanish media for weeks.
It’s not even Christmas and some are already seeing the 30-year-old’s transfer as something of a disaster, which is almost certainly premature.
Given all of this, and how well the midfielder did at Real Betis, there’s inevitably insinuations building of a return. Those claims apparently started in the UK but have been quickly picked up in Spain.
The gist is that West Ham would be willing to see the back of the player, with Real Betis waiting for him with open arms.
AS point out that wages and transfer fee would be an issue, which is likely a huge understatement.
Estadio Deportivo, a sport newspaper local to Real Betis, explain that West Ham are leaving their options open and haven’t made a decision in relation to January yet.
The Spanish club themselves need a midfield addition after various fitness issues.
However, the big issue here is money and West Ham would surely be reluctant to subsidise Rodriguez’s wages should he return to his former club on loan.
Despite that, Wednesday’s newspaper edition of AS says the player is ‘very much in the running’ for Real Betis.
