Morocco’s historic victory over Portugal, making the first African club to reach a World Cup semi-final, means that West Ham United have to wait before they are reunited with Nayef Aguerd.

The centre-back was unable to take place in the quarter-final clash due to an injury picked up against Spain, but his teammates’ success means he will get at least another chance at featuring in Qatar.

However, it appears to be a slim one, if L’Equipe on Monday are to be believed, claiming that he remains ‘still very uncertain’ for the game against France.

The French newspaper look at how close some of the Morocco and France players are due to their time at clubs together, with the West Ham defender already having a chat with club teammate Alphonse Aréola before the competition, telling him that if they made it out of the group stages, “we’ll see you in the semis or in the final.”

He was right, but whether he plays remains to be seen, because his hamstring issue hasn’t been resolved, and that will be a concern for the Hammers in the process.

That’s because despite signing Aguerd from Rennes in the summer, West Ham have not been able to use him a lot this season due to injury.

He just about made it back in time for the World Cup, and while that paid off early on, his body caught up with him in the first knockout round, seemingly making it hard for him to play on Wednesday evening.

Something to keep an eye on, which we’ll sure is exactly what West Ham will be doing ahead of a long and tough second half of the season.
