West Ham defender José Fonte is reportedly close on returning to the team after spending almost three months out with a malleolar injury.

As reported by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today, the 34-year-old is back in team training and should be ready to play in two weeks time.

Fonte got injured in a game against Crystal Palace in late November, and had to go through foot surgery, making the recovery a little bit longer than expected.

West Ham still had Slaven Bilic as the manager at that time, so Fonte still has to prove himself under David Moyes so he can get a place in the team.

Portuguese newspapers rarely have exclusive updates on Premier League player’s injuries, so it’s quite interesting to see this news in O Jogo.

Especially if you recall that still yesterday, they had a story saying that José Fonte was helping the Hammers to convince João Mário to join them on a move from Inter Milan.

Wonder who they’ve been talking to.
