West Ham United midfielder Edson Álvarez has managed to ditch his crutches, but his injury is still too swollen for him to be tested.

That’s according to Record in Mexico, who say the footballer is still waiting to be able to undergo tests to determine the extent of his current problem.

The newspaper explains that Mexican fans had been left excited by the image of Álvarez without crutches, with hope he could be back sooner than later from an injury in his femoral biceps in his left leg.

He was injured in the recent clash with Jamaica at the Copa América, being withdrawn after 28 minutes.

Mexico’s medical team had planned to perform more medical tests on him on Monday in an attempt to rule out a serious injury but the inflammation in the player’s femoral biceps has prevented those tests from being carried out.

Optimism soon spread among fans when they saw the West Ham man in training and not using crutches, but Record say this was ill-placed as the midfielder wore protection on his thigh and ‘moved with great caution’.

All signs point to the fact that the West Ham man won’t be returning soon, with the Mexican medical team still waiting on the inflammation to subside before they can do necessary tests and obtain a clear diagnosis of his injury.
