West Ham United are one of the clubs in the race for Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi, according to new claims from Germany.
Bild journalist Christian Falk is the one saying the Hammers are ‘interested’ in the 24-year-old.
The striker, who joined the Bundesliga side in a €6.5m move from Liverpool, seems to have a pretty clear price tag, as according to the report he’s protected by a €20m release clause.
It’s still not clear whether West Ham have started contacts for his signing yet, as they’re just named as a club who are in the competition for his signing.
Newcastle United and Southampton are in the same situation.
Both Southampton and West Ham had already been linked to Awoniyi. That came from a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, who said the clubs were ‘fighting’ for the signing and could soon bid for the player. Now with this information being backed up by the German media, it seems their interest may be serious.
Awoniyi, who belonged to Liverpool for several years, has 18 goals for Union Berlin this season.
