Spanish goalkeeper Roberto finally had a chance to make his debut for Alavés last weekend.

Following his loan spell from West Ham United in the January transfer window, the 34-year-old first struggled with a knee injury, and then there was the Coronavirus break.

Roberto has spoken to the Spanish press this week, and talked about the feeling of being involved in a game after a few months (via Marca).

“It’s true that I come from another league and have spent many months without competing. That they see me again on the field having a good performance always brings joy to the closest people. I’ve had many signs of affection on my return and that’s appreciated.”

Regarding the chances of staying at Alavés for longer, the goalkeeper makes it clear he’d fancy that plan.

“Deportivo Alavés offered me a hand from the first day and that’s why it’s much easier. This is a great place to be, be happy, enjoy this and continue with a good career.”

Roberto probably has one of the most interesting transfer histories among players these days. He’s featured for Atletico Madrid, Gimnastic, Recreativo, Real Zaragoza, Benfica, Olympiacos, Espanyol, Malaga, West Ham and finally Deportivo Alavés. Most of these moves were on loan deals, especially from his time with the Colchoneros.

The 34-year-old even made a few appearances for West Ham this season while Lukasz Fabianski was injured, but then went back to the bench and ended up being loaned out. His contract with the Hammers runs until 2021.
