Earlier on Tuesday, we covered reports from Spanish outlet El Desmarque which said that West Ham are about to pay Maxi Gomez’s release clause.
The website said the Hammers are ready to spend €50m on the Celta Vigo player, and the clause activation could be ‘possibly done’ today.
Now another local outlet, this time Estádio Deportivo, backs up the news. They also claim that West Ham will activate the clause, and Celta are already looking for other options to replace the striker.
Estádio Deportivo claims that Celta have always been tough when negotiating for Gomez. It’s said that Sevilla wanted to pay €20m, but the Celestes held him until West Ham showed up ready to spend the €50m amount.
These last claims may look like the Hammers could have negotiated for a better price, but maybe the rush is what convinced the club to make a certain shot. That’s if the reports are correct, of course.
