It will still take a while for the Portuguese press to consider West Ham out of the race for  Sporting midfielder William Carvalho.

After the failed negotiations in the summer, local papers refuse to believe the Hammers have given up on signing the 25-year-old.

Now the player continues to be involved in several transfer rumours, lots of them coming from France, where he’s said to be wanted by Monaco. And when covering a story today, newspaper A Bola had to give West Ham a mention once again.

The original report, which came from Mercato 365, claimed that besides Monaco, there are English clubs interested in the midfielder.

A Bola read it and wrote that ‘obviously’ West Ham are one of them, even though they don’t give any details saying if the London side would be back for Carvalho or not.

This situation makes it hard to know if the Portuguese papers still expect another approach from West Ham, or if they just claim the club are interested because it’s now a force of habit.

In any case, the interest from Monaco just shows that Carvalho won’t have a discount anytime soon, as the competition continues to exist.

Monaco also had a scout at Sporting’s last match, which only helped those rumours grow.
