For some reason, TuttoMercatoWeb and Calciomercato are both reporting that Tuttosport have a new favourite in the race to sign Stefano Sturaro from Juventus.

Over the past couple of weeks, Newcastle have been heavily touted as the most likely Premier League side to sign the 25-year-old, but now it appears to be West Ham, going around Europe trying to please Manuel Pellegrini.

Since both were claiming this, we decided to have a look in the Italian newspaper, but, as far as we can tell, there’s nothing to it, with Sturaro getting the briefest of mentions, and no ‘West Ham’ or ‘Hammers’ in sight.

It’s true the Hammers have been linked with the Juventus player, with the same Tuttosport even claiming back on June 20th they had bid £17.5m, but it never really picked up elsewhere.

Had that actually been the case, we’re guessing the offer would have been accepted, since all of the reports after that claimed €18m would do the trick.

That is unless Sturaro rejected a move to West Ham to favour Newcastle, but that wouldn’t exactly fit the being ‘in pole’ angle.

It’s a bit of a mess, and if you see stories about the Hammers being ‘in pole’ going around over the next few hours, we suggest you don’t take them too seriously.
