Towards the end of the summer window, West Ham United had identified Clermont Foot’s Mohamed Bayo as a transfer target. Reports from France then stated the Hammers initiated contact, but were unable to get him away from the club.
The forward has eight goals and two assists from 16 league matches this season. On October 1st, he signed a new deal with the French club and his contract expires in 2024.
Le10 Sport now state the 23-year-old signed an extension in exchange for an ‘exit voucher’. If his employer were to receive a “great offer”, he can change clubs and that could happen sooner rather than later.
As per the report, three English clubs are chasing the player and David Moyes’ side are among them. It’s claimed West Ham have ‘already contacted Clermont’ to ‘make their intentions known’ and also ‘inquire’ about the conditions to carry out a transfer.
The Ligue 1 side are asking for €20m and the Hammers ‘do not seem afraid’ of the valuation. If Clermont were to receive a proposal in that range, Le10 question ‘how can they say no?’.
Clermont could agree for Bayo’s sale and would insert a condition to retain the player on loan until the end of this season. According to Le10, the Premier League side ‘would not be against’ it.
