West Ham United are having another one of those transfers windows in which they’re linked to every conceivable striker target, some of them the same links as markets gone before.
Maxi Gomez has probably been the man most strongly linked, but with him looking for Champions League football, and Celta Vigo reopening negotiations with Valencia, it looks like a long shot at this stage.
Duvan Zapata was said to be a target in January, and Gazzetta dello Sport reports West Ham offered Atalanta €40m in the winter market. It wasn’t considered enough then and to even sit down for negotiations now, the Italian newspaper believes the Hammers would need to put forward €10m more.
The 28 year old scored 28 goals and provided eight assists last season, helping the Serie A club finish third and qualify for the Champions League.
Napoli are interested but haven’t got to the required amount, and it’s suggested €50m may not even be enough.
Atalanta are sending out a tough message, and Gazzetta wonder how they would react to an offer around €60-65m.
That’s clearly too much for the Hammers, there are other targets.
