This week could be decisive for Pedro Obiang’s future if the latest reports in the Italian media are to be believed.

On Friday, we relayed some news from Telegenova that Sampdoria wanted to bring back the 26-year-old to Genoa, but the player’s wages could be an issue.

The midfielder was said to be keen on a return to his former club, having left ‘friends and good memories’ there when he moved to London, and Monday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport claim he’s already said ‘yes’ to the idea of a move back.

With that sorted, Walter Sabatini (Sampdoria’s director of technical area) and Massimo Osti (their director of football) could meet with West Ham this week to try and negotiate a deal for Obiang.

Over the weekend, local Genoa newspaper Il Seccolo XIX went against Telegenova, reporting the wages would ‘absolutely not’ be an obstacle for Sampdoria and revealing a ‘rough agreement’ had already been sorted with the midfielder.

The main problem was dealing with West Ham, who were reportedly asking for €10-12m, with Manuel Pellegrini said to ‘like’ what Obiang had to offer.

As things stand, it seems the Spaniard has already decided where he’d like to play next season, but the Hammers could stand in his way if their new manager would prefer to keep him around.
