When David Moyes was at Everton he picked up a nickname of Dithering Dave from some fans of the club. The manager was known to stall over transfer targets and leave things until the last minute, which can be seen by all the late business Everton did whilst Moyes was in charge of the club.
In his first, and only, summer as Manchester United manager, Moyes again left everything until the last minute, although he’s repeatedly blamed that on others at Old Trafford.
Should there be money to spend at West Ham in January then West Ham fans will hope Moyes has dropped the Dithering Dave character and is ready to make quick and big decisions.
That’s almost certainly what he’d have to do over William Carvalho. With the English press breathing new life this week into Carvalho to West Ham, the story has been picked up in Portugal.
West Ham are said to ‘know the price’ and that Carvalho will cost them more than €30m, but how much that ‘more’ is could very much depend on how quick the club are. A Bola point out that Sporting are looking to renew Carvalho’s contract, which would see his release clause shoot up, make the price higher, and a January sale much less likely.
This time there can be no messing around from West Ham if they have any intention of actually ending up with the player.
