West Ham United midfielder Carlos Soler has insisted he’d love to play at the new Mestalla in Valencia, and admitted he regularly talks to current captain Jose Gaya.
Super Deporte cover comments from the Spanish midfielder today, who is currently on loan at West Ham United from Paris Saint Germain.
He joined the Hammers in the summer and has been a regular under both Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter, but whether he remains at West Ham long-term remains to be seen.
They have an option to make his loan deal a permanent one, but it is unclear whether the Hammers, and specifically Potter, consider him a part of their long-term plans.
Reports this week have indicated that they don’t, and the midfielder could instead make a return to Spain, where several clubs would be happy to take him if they can work something out with his wages.
Valencia would likely be at the top of the list given Soler came through the club’s youth ranks and made 226 appearances in the first team, scoring 36 goals and assisting 31, before heading to PSG in 2022.
He’s now added a little fuel to the fire, admitting he wants to play at the new Mestalla whenever that opens and is in regular contact with current Valencia captain Gaya.
“Of course I would like to play there,” he said.
“I have already seen that the works have resumed, hopefully the deadlines they give for the stadium will be met.
“We have a very good relationship,” he added in regard to Gaya.
“He loves the club, he’s shown it, he’s stayed despite having offers. He’s been here a long time and of course he’s suffering from the situation.
“Now the team is a bit better than it was a few weeks ago. We’ve exchanged messages, he doesn’t use his phone much, but I talk to him, to Jaume… I have a relationship with the players; whenever there’s a game, I watch it, whenever Valencia plays, I watch it on TV. I hope it goes well. They’re in a better dynamic, especially at Mestalla.”
