The Newcastle man’s performances in the final stages of the Euros caught the eyes of many clubs as he drove through the midfields of Germany and Portugal time and time again, defending as well as attacking and demonstrating skills few expected him to have.
Teams like Manchester United, Juventus and even Paris Saint-Germain have all been touted as potential destinations for the 26-year-old, but it’s West Ham who are apparently in the lead now, according to Le10 Sport.
The London club are said to have contacted the player’s entourage to let them know of their interest, but it’s with Newcastle where the problem is likely to lie.
Newcastle made it clear they wouldn’t sell for less than £35m, which seems to be information either ignored or tactically dismissed by the French website, as they claim Newcastle would be willing to start discussion at around €20m (£16.7m)
This seems extremely low, and because of that, we’re not really prepared to believe this one just yet.
