West Ham United have ‘made an offer’ for the Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi but face competition from Nice for his signature.
That’s according to Blick, who cover the situation around the 25-year-old Switzerland defender today.
They cover reports from French newspaper L’Equipe, who say that Nice, now managed by Lucien Favre, are targeting the Swiss stars currently playing for Gladbach.
After an unsuccessful bid for Yann Sommer, they are now trying their luck with Elvedi, who Favre ‘crossed briefly’ with at Gladbach in the summer of 2015.
They’re thinking about a possible move, but the player is also being ‘courted’ in England, specifically by West Ham.
According to Blick’s information, West Ham have also ‘made an offer’ for the defender, but there is no mention of the nature of that bid, just that one has been made.
The newspaper suggests that the ‘Premier League’s reputation’ could influence the defender’s choice, although he is yet to make one about his future. There is a chance he could also stay at Gladbach, where he has a contract until 2024.
The information is a little thin on the ground at this point, so we’ll have to take it with a pinch of salt for now.
A move would make little sense for West Ham given they’ve just signed Thilo Kehrer and spent big on Nayef Aguerd earlier in the window.
While the latter is injured, David Moyes still has Kehrer, Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna at his disposal so he is not short of options at centre-back and not in need of Elvedi.
A bid, though, has been lodged according to Blick so his name is one to keep an eye out for in the final hours of the window.
