On Wednesday, a new name appeared in West Ham’s search for a new striker: Giovanni Simeone.
The son of the Atlético Madrid manager is currently at Cagliari in Serie A, and while he isn’t the most prolific, he provides a certain presence up front.
Capped six times with Argentina, the 25-year-old has five goals to his name in 16 appearances this season for the Italian club, and it appears West Ham would prefer to have him for the short term rather than commit a larger fee on his services.
That’s because Sky Italia are reporting the Hammers’ original offer, rather than a large sum up front like they’ve done for Youssef En-Nesyri, is a €1m loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy ‘that doesn’t convince’ Cagliari.
This means that should West Ham really want Simeone, which doesn’t appear to be the case at the minute, they’ll need to improve their terms because ‘at these conditions, the player doesn’t move’.
