The winter race for the Ludogorets winger Jonathan Cafu ended up not resulting in a transfer.
English sides Leicester City, Stoke City, West Ham and Brighton were the clubs to make late approaches, but Sport Witness has been informed that, due to Ludogorets demands, official offers were not even made.
Lazio and Lyon were the only sides who placed their bids, but they were both below the amount expected and turned down by Ludogorets.
It’s believed that the Bulgarian club dreamed of making up to €12m with the transfer, even though the interested sides were pricing him closer to €7m.
With eleven goals and seven assists this season, Cafu has not only impressed in Bulgaria but also in Champions League clashes against PSG and Arsenal.
Even bigger competition for the player next summer. As Cafu’s contract expires in 2018, Ludogorets club will see the transfer window as the last chance to make decent money on the transfer.
Without a renewal, Ludogrets will have to be reasonable on price, giving a boost to Leicester, Stoke, West Ham, and any other clubs involved. However, they’ll still likely value him higher than €7m.
