Leicester City and West Ham United were both on the list of scouts who travelled to watch Porto winning Estoril for the Portuguese league last night.
The Dragons confirmed the good performances they had been having in preseason and started the league with a 4-0 win, showing they can fight for the title this year.
It’s A Bola who published the list of club emissaries who were on the stands last night, but they don’t really know which specific player the clubs were watching.
Leicester City haven’t really been linked to any players from either club lately, but West Ham have. Both Yacine Brahimi and Vincent Aboubakar were said to be wanted by the London side.
The duo live a similar situation at the Portuguese side: they were both expected to leave, but ended up showing they deserve a place in the squad and are set to be regular starters this season.
Against Estoril, Brahimi didn’t only play as a winger, and was much praised by local newspaper O Jogo for the job he did behind the strikers. He scored one goal and was a constant danger for the away side.
Aboubakar missed several chances, but also had a positive performance for holding the ball in attack.
At the end of last season, there were several articles linking West Ham to Brahimi, when he was available for €40m. Regarding Aboubakar, the interest dates back to last summer, when the Hammers were said to be battling with Besiktas for the transfer. The Turkish side won the race at that time, and had the striker on loan for one season.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Lille, Montpellier and Atalanta all had representatives watching the match as well.
