As Everton and Tottenham prepare to face each other on Friday night, Paolo Di Canio, who knows both sides well from his time as a player at West Ham and manager at Sunderland in the Premier League, was interviewed by Il Mattino.
The conversation revolved around many topics, such as Serie A issues, the outcome of the upcoming clash between Napoli and Inter before leaving the best until last: Carlo Ancelotti vs José Mourinho.
The two experienced managers will go head to head in a rather important Premier League fixture, as both clubs are trying to fight their way into a European spot, with Tottenham currently one point ahead of Everton, who have a game in hand.
For West Ham legend Di Canio, there’s one club heading in the right direction, with the other regressing, and you can take a guess as to which is which fairly easily.
He said: “Everton have lost physical vigour in recent times, but Carlo has made Everton dream. He recovered their enthusiasm. During long spells, he was very close to the Champions League.
“Mou, on the other hand, has been disappointing. He made the ‘Spursy’ re-emerge or has betrayed Tottenham’s ambitions just when they seemed achievable”.
Harsh words aimed at the Portuguese manager by the West Ham legend, but few will disagree that Spurs, by their standards, aren’t having the best of seasons.
There’s still time to turn things around with a good run of form, and that could all start on Friday evening at Goodison Park.
