Grégoire Defrel has been linked with a move to England for some time. Back in February 2015, when Defrel was still at Cesena, QPR were keen on buying the player, but ultimately missed out.
Since then, and after the player impressing at Sassuolo, Defrel has been linked to more than a handful of Premier League clubs, including West Ham.
In November Defrel was quizzed about supposed Arsenal and Liverpool interest, and responded: “All that needs to happen is me going through a dry spell for these rumours to go away. But the English league is the one I’ve always appreciated the most. When I was younger, it was Premier League games that I watched.”
West Ham interest is still alive, according to Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
Slaven Bilic is going to need reinforcements upfront, with the departure of Simeone Zaza, likely departure of Jonathan Calleri, and doubts over others in forward positions too.
Defrel has 6 goals in 1458 Serie A minutes so far this season. A purple patch helped bring interest but things have calmed since, and West Ham would be taking something of a gamble.
A gamble on a player who largely built his reputation in a brief period at Sassuolo? Sounds very Simone Zaza.
