West Ham United have reportedly joined the race for Sporting midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia.
It’s Portuguese newspaper O Jogo who comes out with this information today, saying that the Hammers have recently shown their interest in signing the 26-year-old.
As made official by the clubs, West Ham and Sporting have recently made peace after their public war over William Carvalho’s collapsed transfer in the summer.
O Jogo claims that West Ham have followed Battaglia since his time at Huracan, the club he left in 2013, and now promise to go after him strongly.
The newspaper claims Sporting are currently demanding €30m for the player’s transfer. They have no big problems in letting him go because they’re already signing Wendel from Brazilian side Fluminense as a replacement in January.
It’s worth recalling that West Ham shouldn’t be alone in the race for Battaglia, since West Brom have reportedly had a €15m bid for him rejected this month. But that was written by A Bola, and O Jogo don’t mention the Baggies in the story.
Maybe Battaglia, and not Carvalho, was the reason for peace breaking out between West Ham and Sporting.
