Earlier today, we covered a story from the Italian media regarding West Ham United’s reported interest in Gianluca Scamacca.
The striker has emerged as a main target for the Hammers, with Paris Saint-Germain turning their attention to Hugo Ekitike, and the London side are ready to pay.
The previous report didn’t have a figure, but Gazzetta dello Sport do, believing that West Ham’s offer ‘could materialise’ in the next four days, before July 17th, when Sassuolo, as a club, turns 102.
The Ligue 1 side haven’t given up entirely, and there is a ‘real duel’ between them and their Premier League counterparts, but they ‘had stopped at €35m + bonuses’.
Sassuolo had lowered their demands to €45m from an initial €50m, and now West Ham turn up, who ‘intend to reach €40m as a fixed part + bonuses (€5-7m)’.
The belief is those extra incentives, and ‘whether they are linked to appearances, goals or team successes’, because if they can be achieved easily, ‘they will be able to make the difference’.
It now all depends on how Paris Saint-Germain reply, because if they don’t bother raising their bid, then ‘West Ham could win’.
Furthermore ‘there will be phone calls, meetings, accelerations in the next few hours’, which could mean Scamacca’s future could edge more towards England than France.
For example, heading to Paris would mean competing for a spot against the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, while West Ham have a ready made space in their squad, as they don’t have pure number nine in their squad.
All in all, other than the prestige of watching those three from the bench more often than not, the advantages mostly fall in the Hammers’ court.
