Angel Gomes’ contract with Lille expires at the end of the current season and that presents an opportunity to sign the player as a free agent, something West Ham are said to be keen on.
The 24-year-old signed for the Ligue 1 side in 2020, that move was also as a free agent after Manchester United failed to get him to sign a new contract. He initially played on loan in Portugal at Boavista, before making his way back in Lille.
L’Equipe report West Ham want to sign Gomes as a free agent, and ‘hope to be able to secure an agreement’ now for the player to join them when his Lille contract expires at the end of June. Tottenham interest, as reported in England, also gets a mention from the French newspaper.
As far as L’Equipe have it, Tottenham want Gomes this month and Lille are set against letting key players leave in the January window.
That would therefor give West Ham a better chance on the face of it, but if Tottenham placed a tempting winter bid then it’s surely got to be a consideration for Lille.
In addition, there’s every chance Tottenham could rival West Ham for the free agent signing, although that isn’t mentioned by L’Equipe.
