Thursday saw the publication of an article on Calciomercato regarding West Ham’s Lucas Perez and a possible move to Olympiakos in January.
Vaguely citing the “Greek media” as their source, we decided to take a look, and, well, there wasn’t a lot around.
As far as we can tell, the story was first mentioned on social media by an account on Twitter called “OlympiakosInfo”, stating that ‘flirts with the West Ham striker and Mitroglou’ were ‘ongoing’ for January, which was then picked up by a Greek account, and it seemingly snowballed from there.
Since, we’ve seen the Spanish and Italian media picking it up, and it can’t be long before some members of the English press, who also don’t double check things, get hold of the scent and perhaps embellish it further.
Looking at the Greek media, nothing caught our eye, and it appears we have been presented with a story that came from nowhere, and doesn’t have a lot to it.
We might be wrong, and we could have missed something, so if you do see something conclusive, please let us know.
Since joining the Hammers from Arsenal over the summer, has played just 405 minutes of football over 10 appearances, scoring four goals.
Not the greatest timeshare, but, then again, West Ham only paid £4m for him.
