Over the past 24 hours, the idea that Lyon could make a move for Issa Diop has been circulating in France.
It stems from L’Equipe, who explained the Ligue 1 side are looking at the West Ham United player to bolster their defence for next season, and with him not featuring all that regularly for the Hammers, a transfer this summer is on the cards.
The idea would be for him to return to France and get away from David Moyes, who doesn’t appear to fully trust him, which could then help him return into the spotlight.
While there was optimism that a deal could be struck, a price was never really mentioned, but Foot Mercato, after a bit of digging, appear to have found the answer to that.
The website explain that with Diop’s contract at West Ham expiring in 2023, ‘the door has chances of opening’, but not just at any price, as they’ve learnt that the Hammers have ‘fixed his price at €15m minimum’.
As for the player, he ‘isn’t against a return’ to France, but with a hefty wage packet currently being earned in England, a problem could arise in contract talks.
We’ll have to wait and see about that, but it seems Lyon will at least give it a go.
