Two Portuguese newspapers write this morning that West Ham United have made a new bid for the signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica.

Since the Hammers were the first to enter the fight for the midfielder, both reports look secondary, because Record’s headline is actually about Wolves’ interest in the player, while O Jogo highlight an attempt from Chelsea.

Still, David Moyes’ side are looking strong in the race, as both outlets say Benfica should have a meeting today to analyse this latest Hammers bid.

Record says West Ham are trying to sign Gedson on a loan deal which would last one and a half years. They would pay €1.5m, in three equal instalments of €500k.

The Premier League side would be trying to include two clauses to ‘protect them’. So in case they get relegated to the Championship or Gedson doesn’t start 50% of their upcoming Premier League games this season, he would be sent back to Benfica.

The big problem in this offer is that West Ham didn’t include a buying option. That’s bad because Eagles president Lúis Felipe Vieira wants to make at least €40m with his sale.

West Ham would be trying to convince Gedson by offering him a salary of €1.8m net per season, and would use the fact that his parents leave in London to attract him.

Newspaper O Jogo has a very similar story, although they don’t bring many details on the bid made by the Hammers.

Something interesting is that they say West Ham already have an agreement with Gedson Fernandes, so all they’d have to do now is find a deal with Benfica.

With both newspapers saying the bid will be analysed today, it shouldn’t take long until we know if the Hammers will succeed with this signing.
