Should Issa Diop continue the way he’s started then he’s going to force his way further into the hearts of West Ham fans.

Not only is he producing on the pitch, but the young Frenchman is also saying all the right things in interviews.

He’s not made efforts to talk up supposed interest from PSG and Manchester United, despite being pushed on it more than once, and he’s insistent that he needs to put in better performances, not content with the level he’s reached so far.

Now there’s another reason for West Ham fans to fall for Diop… he thinks they’re great.

Asked by Footmercato about atmosphere in the Premier League, the 21 year old answered: “The atmosphere is incredible. Every weekend, the stadiums are full. In addition at West Ham, we are lucky to have very good supporters. They are the best fans in England. So that’s why the atmosphere is very good there.”

Diop is also happy with the manager he’s found at the Hammers, Manuel Pellegrini: “We have a very good relationship. It’s a relationship of coach to player. When I do bad things, he tells me. And when it’s good, he does the same. The goal is for me to make progress.”

And there’s also only good things coming from the player about how he’s settling in at his new club: “Everything is going very well. I adapt, I learn English (laughs). But it’s okay, fortunately I went to school. Joking aside, my adaptation went very well. Everyone welcomed me.”

With 13 games so far, including ten completed in the Premier League, Diop is surely having the start to his English football career that both he and Pellegrini hoped for.
