It’s been a few weeks since the Portuguese press started reporting that André Almeida should renew his contract with Benfica this summer.
Still, some Premier League clubs continue to be linked to the right-back. Today, it’s West Ham’s turn to get a mention, in what is probably one of the worst transfer stories we’ve ever seen. It comes from A Bola, and is a ten-second read.
‘West Ham eyeing André – Benfica’s right-back André Almeida, who will renew for the incarnated, is referenced by West Ham.’
And that’s all they have to say.
So A Bola is pretty sure that Almeida is signing a new contract, which makes his departure from the Eagles pretty unlikely, partly because his €30m release clause should go up.
Almeida is also featured in newspaper Record today. They’ve taken a few quotes from an interview he’s given to Mais Futebol, where he makes it clear that he has no idea of where his future will be. He actually teases with a Premier League move, maybe giving West Ham some hope about a summer transfer.
“I really like the English league, the passion, the respect. It’s all very healthy, unlike what goes on here. I have this curiosity, but I’m grateful. I never thought I would reach the age of 28 and have the lifestyle I have. For all that Benfica provided me and my family, if I have to stay here the rest of my life I’ll stay and I’m very satisfied.”
