Having loaned and now sold Arthur Masuaku to Besiktas, West Ham United could have Emerson Palmieri and Aaron Cresswell as their left-backs for next season.
The issue is that the latter’s contract with the Hammers expires in the summer, and there could be doubts the 33-year-old has much left to give at the top level long-term.
That’s why, should West Ham avoid the drop, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them enter the market for a new left-back, with Federico Dimarco the latest mentioned as an option, thanks to Inter Live.
The website, out of the blue, start discussing the idea of a potential ‘direct exchange’ between Emerson and the Inter Milan player this summer.
Inter still have the need to sell one asset for a big sum this summer, but the idea of the two swapping teams could be enticing, and ‘everything makes sense where economic needs speak for themselves’.
However, it’s added that should Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio reject the notion of a direct swap, then West Ham could also ‘easily reach’ the price tag slapped on Dimarco’s back.
That’s €30m, which would be seen as ‘not a bad capital gain’, as the 25-year-old was bought back from Sion for €5m in 2018.
Whether this is something West Ham are actually interested in remains to be seen, but it would be strange for Inter Live to bring it up without at least having heard something first.
