Argentine newspaper Olé is now sounding very confident that West Ham United could sign Gonzalo Montiel from River Plate this summer.
Their latest story on this saga says the Hammers have ‘decided to make a strong offer’ for the right-back, and communicated the Argentine side that they’re doing it once they confirm their stay in the Premier League.
Olé recalls that the London side already tried to sign Montiel in January, but now claims that this saga is likely to have a happy ending this time.
West Ham are expected to pay £10m for him, and the reason for it would be his work permit.
Montiel doesn’t have an EU passport, and even though he’s a regular starter for a top club in Argentina, the FA must be convinced he’s worth the visa.
That means West Ham have to pay a considerable amount for his signing, and this year, £10m would be enough to show he’s a talent they need.
That would make Montiel the expensive right-back in River Plate’s history, so they’d be happy to take the offer.
