Napoli’s objective to bring in a forward in the next transfer window could be solved by signing West Ham United’s Simone Zaza according to claims in Italy.

The Italian international has still yet to score a goal for his new club since arriving in the summer, and the former Juventus player has been linked with a move back to Serie A in the New Year.

Napoli’s problems this season have been well documented after their top scorer from the last campaign Gonzalo Higuaín signed for Juventus in the summer. With the long term injury to Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik this has put further pressure on Napoli to bring in a forward in in January, given they now only have Manolo Gabbiadini to count on.

Il Mattino claim the most realistic chance of signing a top striker in January is Zaza given he’s been unable to make an impact at West Ham United. Napoli would apparnetly be able to land Zaza for a reasonable transfer fee, and the player could be tempted with a return to Serie A.

Napoli would also only have to deal with West Ham because the player will become a permanent fixture at the club once he plays another game, meaning talks would less complicated. However, West ham may be reluctant to have him play that next game and then sell him for a loss in January.

Despite their interest in Zaza, Napoli’s first choice is Genoa’s Leonardo Pavoletti, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks. However, Pavoletti has been in impressive form for Genoa this season, and it’s unlikely they would sell the forward mid-season.
