OK, so, bear with us here, but this is a bit weird.

We’ve got a French outlet reporting what appears to be exclusive information about an English club being in talks with an Italian side regarding a Portuguese footballer.

Now that you’ve wrapped your head around that, West Ham are currently in talks to try and sign Joao Mario from Inter, according to RMC Sport.

The news comes on their live feed, and, unlike stories relaying other outlets, they credit one of their journalists at the bottom, suggesting it’s their info.

RMC state the Hammers are trying to negotiate a loan deal for the former Sporting CP midfielder, currently out of favour in Milan, having failed to live up to the €40m expectations that came with his signing.

Linked with a move to Manchester United last month (with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way), Mario is said to be only ‘averagely’ interested in playing under David Moyes.

There’s no trace of this in Italy (yet), so we’re a little confused, but we’ll have to wait and see.
