Mariano Díaz turned down an opportunity to join Benfica on a loan deal during the last window despite the Portuguese side finding an agreement for his transfer with Real Madrid.
Over the past few days, reports in England have talked about West Ham United’s interest in taking the striker in January, but AS explained on Friday the 27-year-old will have the ‘last word’ on any potential move.
The Hammers are not the only club who are after him as they are now joined by Crystal Palace and Lyon in chasing the player.
That’s what Sport are reporting today and state the attacker has refused to leave the La Liga winners in the last two summer windows even after Zinedine Zidane recommended him to move elsewhere.
Mariano always wanted to succeed at Real Madrid but after having returned to club from Lyon in 2018, he hasn’t been able to fulfil it.
The attacker ‘begins to understand’ he’s running out of time to fulfil his dream of succeeding at Real Madrid, which may make him consider his future at the club.
However, that hasn’t stopped from attracting interest as the likes of West Ham and the Eagles to ‘follow’ him. and a door could certainly open up for David Moyes and Roy Hodgson in the coming window.
According to Sport, Mariano ‘fits’ the profile West Ham, Palace and Lyon are looking for.
Whether the two Premier League clubs agree with Sport’s report remains to be seen and we’ll know more about it in the weeks leading up to the winter market.
