West Ham have ‘cooled’ their interest in Sao Paulo defender Luizão, who is now expected to receive an offer from Olympiacos instead.
That’s according to Jovem Pan, who say the Hammers are no longer interested in the 20-year-old centre-back.
West Ham spent much of their summer focusing on defensive reinforcements, with the likes of Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer both eventually joining.
However, an injury to the former means they remain short in the position and numerous reports have seen them linked with moves for other defenders in the January transfer window.
One of their potential targets was Luizão, who they were credited with an interest in back in August. In fact, so strong were the links, Sao Paulo’s president was asked about transfer stories regarding West Ham and Fulham.
A move never happened, and it seemed he would simply be a name to keep an eye on, but it appears that is not the case.
Jovem Pan report, via their journalist Gabriel Sá, that the ‘expectation’ the player would receive an offer from West Ham in January has ‘cooled’.
While Luizão wants to play in European football and his current contract is only until January 31st, making him an attractive cheap option, it seems the Hammers are no longer as keen as they once were.
Instead, he is expected to receive an offer from Olympiacos, while there are also teams in the United Arab Emirates and Mexico who are interested.
