West Ham are continuing their efforts to ‘seduce’ Marcelo, reports Monday edition of L’Equipe.

The French newspaper is taking a look at Lyon’s hunt for a central defender this summer, and the Marcelo situation makes it more important.

Even before the Hammers were showing interest in Marcelo, Lyon were on the lookout for an addition in central defence. If the 31 year old succumbs to West Ham advances and Lyon are tempted by a transfer offer then they’d have to move for another player too.

Interestingly, Lyon could just say no and refuse to sell, but that hasn’t been the stance in the French media. Le Progres, local to the French club, report the Premier League club are still ‘forcing’ to sign Marcelo, and he’s really considering it.

Lyon targets for central defence are clarified by L’Equipe, who name Victor Lindelof first. It’s explained the former Benfica defender hasn’t really got the approval of Jose Mourinho, and that’s why a Manchester United exit would be considered a possibility.

Given Mourinho’s struggles to get players in he’s unlikely to sanction a sale unless he gets his own targets, and there’s surely others at Old Trafford who should be edged out first.

Mamadou Sakho is another Lyon target.

If West Ham get their way with Marcelo, it’s certainly going to have a knock-on impact with Lyon’s Lindelof intentions.
