West Ham have initiated contact for the signing of Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo, according to claims from France.
Le10Sport writes that the Hammers have contacted the Ligue 1 side to ‘find out the conditions’ for a potential transfer this summer.
The London club aren’t alone in the race, since the likes of Ligue 1 pair Bordeaux and Lille are chasing the 23-year-old as well.
However, Bordeaux can’t go for the signing due to their financial situation, and champions Lille haven’t made their offer yet.
Le10Sport says West Ham have a ‘much more impressive financial power’ than the French clubs, so even though there’s no sign that the Hammers lead the race, it’s clear they have an advantage against the local clubs for now.
It’s fair to say Bayo had an impressive start to the season, with three goals scored in only two matches so far. It seems he’s on a path to repeat the great season he’s just had, when he managed 22 goals and seven assists in 38 appearances.
