West Ham United ‘are interested’ in a move for Watford forward Ismaïla Sarr but face competition from Bayer Leverkusen for his signature.
That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who say Sarr ‘should leave’ the Hornets this summer and has options on the table if he does.
They explain that it ‘smells like the end’ of Sarr’s time with Watford, whose poor season in the Championship, where they finished 11th in the table, has convinced him to take on a new challenge this summer.
With a contract until 2024 this year is the last in which Watford can make any money from a sale and they are willing to let Sarr go if they receive a €20m bid.
That’s a figure some clubs are willing to spend, and West Ham are one of those who have ‘positioned themselves’ to make a move.
They’ve had a complicated season, particularly in attack, and want to fix that in the summer with additions, particularly if they end up winning the Europa Conference League and qualify for the Europa League next season.
However, they face competition from Leverkusen, who look set to lose Moussa Diaby, potentially to the Premier League, and will need to be replaced.
Fortunately for West Ham, though, Sarr is ‘not the priority’ for the German club at this moment in time, offering David Moyes and co their chance to make their move and sign the 25-year-old at the end of the season.
