Brentford and West Ham United are set to do battle with Borussia Dortmund for Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez this summer.

That’s according to BILD, who say the Premier League duo are both competitors to the German side for the Mexican’s signature.

The newspaper explains that Dortmund are set to get their summer transfer business underway after selling Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid in a deal worth an initial €103m.

BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted that as much as 65% of that fee is going to be reinvested in the squad and Álvarez is the man that they wants ‘at all costs’.

He will not be a direct replacement for Bellingham but as a number six in a deal that will cost around €35m overall.

However, Dortmund need to move quickly as the midfield enforcer is also on the list of Premier League clubs, with Brentford and West Ham named specifically.

Why Brentford are keen isn’t mentioned as they are well stocked in midfield, but West Ham’s interest makes sense as they appear set to lose Declan Rice, despite him hinting after their win in the Europa Conference League that he could stay.

Álvarez could be an ideal replacement for their current captain and it seems they are in the mix, alongside Brentford and Dortmund, for his signature.
